Going a little stir crazy quarantining with my guys at home. I've already outplayed all my doll heads and I have moved on to picking at the rest of the members in my household with hair and thus this video was made public.
From time to time we dabble with color in both my fiance and my son's hair and we have a lot of fun with it. Especially as it grows out and eventually gets cut off, and we are left with new canvas once again.
In this video you will watch as I take a men's haircut and elevate his style with a balayage. BAH-LEE-AHGE, balayage is actually a French word meaning 'sweeping,' as in to sweep on a hair lightener to create highlights.
Step NO. 1 Free hand painting
I started out with free hand painting the length of his hair using Redken Flash Lift with Bonder, and 30 vol of Pro-oxide at a 2:1 mixing ration. Light strokes, tension, stroke mid shaft up and finish mid shaft down. Practice makes perfect.
Step NO. 2 Base it out
I based out his sides and back with Wahls Cordless Magic clip clipper and Speed O guard in #0 ( Equivalent to #2) all the way up, right before the cast of my balayage.
Step NO. 3 Refresh and blend
After lighter processed for 40 mins, I rinsed out his hair and refreshed his haircut in the shape of a pompadour. As the rest of the hair dries I am able to go in with the #3 guard and transition where I left off at with a #2, and blend up through the sides connecting the haircut on top.
Step NO. 4 Glaze
With Redken ShadesEQ Gloss I mixed 5CB + 7WN + Processing solution 1:1 on dry hair for 20 mins.
This will ensure maximum color pay off and retention this is crucial especially for a men's service since they tend to rinse and wash their hair more often.
Step NO. Five. STUNT.
I left my guy take over from here !
Being engaged to a Barber/stylist has its perks. Over the years he has mastered his own blow out and even gets crafty with styling products. I prefer the curve of the color against his curls but even a body build blowout can show off the dimension in his haircolor.
